Our tradition for the December newsletter is to ask members of our staff which books from our holiday catalog they’d like to give and to receive. Here’s a link to the catalog.

book

A book I'd like to give:

Everything Sad is Untrue

Daniel Nayeri

I am high on this middle grade/young adult book about a kid growing up in Oklahoma after moving to the U.S. from Iran! It’s funny, honest, touching, and one of those books that might be shelved in juvenile, but will be enjoyed by many lucky adults.

Books I'd like to give:

One Summer Up North
John Owens

This story of a family’s trip to the BWCA is one that I would love to share with the nature loving parents and kids that I know. I’m sure that they could relate to the experiences and natural encounters that are part of spending time together in the wilderness.

book

The World Needs Who You Were Made to Be
Joanna Gaines

The World Needs Who You Were Made to Be encourages children to accept and celebrate differences. Our uniqueness is a benefit to ourselves and others. If more of us, young and old, could embrace this belief, the world would be a better and happier place.

Books I'd like to give:

Angelina and the Princess
Katharine Holabird, illustrated by Helen Craig

My sister was an Angelina fan, and a good picture book might be a nice break from our current realties.

book

Everything Sad is Untrue
Daniel Nayeri

I’m intrigued by this book myself, and might carefully pre-read before giving this so I can talk about it with my nephew’s son.

Jen's review from November.

A book I'd like to receive:

Midnight Sun
Stephenie Meyer

The Twilight books were a guilty pleasure for me so I’m curious about this book. It would be a fun surprise if someone gave it to me.

Books I'd like to give:

Rowley Jefferson’s Awesome Friendly Adventure
Jeff Kinney

I’d like to gift the book Rowley Jefferson’s Awesome Friendly Adventure to one of my cousins because he enjoyed the Diary of a Wimpy Kid by the same author.

book

Unicorns are the Worst
Alex Willian

I’d like to gift the book Unicorns are the Worst to another cousin because the book looks fun. My cousin is super goofy and likes Unicorns. I believe that she’d laugh at this book and enjoy it.

Books I'd like to receive:

Even Goats Need Closure
Jane Donovan and Holly Trechter

I would like to receive the book Even Goats Need Closure by Jane Donovan and Holly Trechter because this book looks like a fun mystery.

book

Starcrossed
Julia Denos

I’d also like to receive the book Starcrossed by Julia Denos because it looks like a yin and yang kind of book, and I have always believed that you can’t have good without bad or light without dark, yin and yang.

A book I'd like to give:

Polar Express
Chris Van Allsburg

A book I’d like to give isn’t in the catalog—it’s the perennial favorite, Polar Express.
