How to Read a Book
written by Kwame Alexander
illustrated by Melissa Sweet

This wonderful picture book uses poetic language to entice children to read by likening reading to eating a delectable fruit. The text appears to be written using a variety of art supplies and the illustrations comprise a mixture of scraps of paper and childlike drawings. This book is a delight for kids and adults alike with its eclectic style and lyrical language.

We were lucky enough to have Cascade back in the store a few days during Christmas break!

Music for Mister Moon
written by Philip C. Stead
illustrated by Erin E. Stead

Harriet just wants to practice her cello in private, but when an owl keeps interrupting her playing, it sets off a chain reaction, resulting in Mister Moon getting caught in Harriet’s chimney. Harriet learns to overcome her performance anxiety through her various adventures with Mister Moon, ending with her playing her cello for him. I loved the illustrations in this book with the expert use of a limited color palette and detailed pencil sketches
