Pansies at Beagle and Wolf

At last—spring has come to Park Rapids!

The snow in front of the store is finally gone, and we’ve dared to put pansies in our baskets. Best of all, snowbirds and summer people are coming back, and we’re so glad to welcome them!

Children’s Book Week

April 30 to May 6

Fostering a love of reading is one of the most important things you can do for the children in your life. This week, make a particular effort to read to them, and encourage them to read to you. Attend a story time in your area. Plan an outing to a library or bookstore. Pick up the official poster (pictured) at Beagle and Wolf, while supplies last. And did we mention read together?

If you’re like us, you enjoy wildflowers when you’re hiking or biking. And like us, you may not always know what you’re looking at. A beautiful new guidebook can help! Searching for Minnesota's Native Wildflowers will be released on May 15, and author Phyllis Root and photographer Kelly Povo will be with us May 26 to talk about the book and sign copies of it. You’ll want to arrive at 12:00 to hear their interesting and informative talk. That will give you all afternoon to look for wildflowers!

The Recovering

Leslie Jamison

A deeply personal and seamless blend of memoir, cultural history, literary criticism, and journalistic reportage, The Recovering turns the traditional addiction narrative on its head, demonstrating that the story of recovery can be every bit as electrifying as the train wreck itself.

Great American Outpost
Maya Rao

Maya Rao is a journalist who embedded herself in the surreal American frontier of the Bakken oil field. With an eye for the dark, humorous, and absurd, she chronicles the largest oil boom since 1968, and the people who were left behind wondering what happened to the good times and if they will ever return.

bookBeaut
Donald Morrill

If your mother decided to write about the details of her life, would you read her account? Jill Lundgrove does just that, and her children don’t know what to make of it.
