Ready for a relaxing day in a beautiful setting? Join us for our annual Spring Retreat, April 7, 10:00 to 4:00 at the Jewel of the Northwoods B&B between Hubbard and Menahga.

Our theme is “Dream Big: Reach for the Stars.” It will be a day to pamper yourself with a delicious lunch and lively conversation about books. The cost is $45 plus books.

March 7

“Doggone Good Chili” will be our entry in the annual Chili Challenge, an event to benefit the Hubbard County Food Shelf. Join us at the American Legion, 11:00 to 1:00 on Wednesday, March 7. Each “dollop” of chili will be $1, and you’ll be helping a great cause. Our chili recipe, renamed to honor Tripod, the store dog, can be found in Stock the Crock, which is available in the store.

Do you have a great chili recipe? There are a few slots still open for challengers...

The Caldecott Medal is awarded annually to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.

Caldecott MedalThis year’s winner is A Wolf in the Snow, illustrated and written by Matthew Cordell.

An honor book is A Different Pond, illustrated by Thi Bui, written by Bao Phi, and published by Capstone Young Readers, a Minnesota publisher.

Both books are available in the store, and were reviewed in earlier issues of this newsletter.
